  • Count 'em - 45!!!

On the opening day of filing for municipal office, the Carteret County Board of Elections was busy. The filing period runs from Noon on Friday, July 7th, until Noon, Friday, July 21st.
According to reports, there are 40 municipal seats open across our County. Twenty-seven candidates filed for seats on opening day, of those filing, 53% were Republicans.
“So what,” you might say. “These are non-partisan races.”
That is correct, however the values and beliefs held by those candidates should not change just because they have entered a non-partisan race.
We contend those Republicans running for office should model conservative values and beliefs in any office they hold; on any decision they make; on any issue they cast a vote.
We need to elect Republicans to every one of those 40 seats! Discuss with your Republican colleagues. File for office. Become a servant leader!

"The Dishonorable Democrats have done it again, attempting to subvert the lawful will of the people of North Carolina. ACT NOW!

The Democrat-controlled NC State Board of Elections is trying to slip in a page of Photo ID exceptions that will negate our court-approved Photo ID law.

The Photo ID Exemption Form designed by the NC State Board of Elections contains flagrant violations of the intent of the law.

The General Statutes allow them to do this. The legislature left a loophole that allows NCSBE to design the form. So, they have thumbed their noses at NC Voters, the NC Supreme Court, and the spirit of the law by submitting these egregious exceptions. WHY ARE WE NOT SURPRISED!!!

The General Assembly should determine the only and very limited exceptions. The NCSBE should never have been given the authority to create broad exceptions. Call and email your Representatives and tell them to do their jobs to protect our elections. This form is unacceptable.

The exemptions listed in EXCEPTION 1, like item 2, (see photo) render the Photo ID law useless. Ignorance of the law is not an excuse, and ignorance should not be codified into law, nor should the other questionable reasons.

We must storm the Legislature (Senate and House) to close this loophole before they leave this session. Remember, we will still be dealing with a Democrat-controlled Board of Elections in 2023-24.

Please call and email your own local legislators, as well as Senator Berger and Speaker Moore, and ask all of them to CLOSE THIS LOOPHOLE IMMEDIATELY.

During the business session of the March 21st meeting of the Carteret County Executive Committee, members passed a motion indicating whole-hearted support for the passage of the NC REACH Act - HB96 and SB114.

Unfortunately, knowledge of American government and our founding documents is at an all time low. Research indicates that not a single college student in the UNC System requires a course in American Government as a condition of graduation. A similar lack of requirements exists at our 58 community colleges.

The REACH Act will balance the curriculum by requiring that all students attending state-funded colleges and universities take a three-credit-hour class on American Government and our Nation's founding documents. We believe graduates from our state-funded colleges and universities deserve a well-rounded education that enables them to become productive citizens. A solid understanding of our Nation's founding documents is integral to that end.

We encourage passage of the NC REACH Act.

  • published 2023 County Convention a Success! in News 2023-03-20 14:06:15 -0400

The 2023 Carteret County GOP Convention held at East Carteret High School was, as the title states, a great success! We heard from many candidates and surrogates from across the state to include: Hal Weatherman for NC Lt. Governor; Tom Murry, for NC Attorney General, and also spoke on behalf of Judge Jefferson Griffin for NC Supreme Court; Patty Morey for Rep. Jon Hardister, running for NC Labor Commissioner; Judge Bob Cherry; Gus Willis for Superior Court Judge, and also spoke on behalf of Judge Valerie Zackery for NC Court of Appeals; Michele Nix for NCGOP Vice Chairwoman Susan Mills, seeking re-election; Charles Dingee for State Auditor; and many others.

3rd District Chairman Dave Wickersham served as the Convention Chairman, supported by Convention Parliamentarian Gus Willis from Craven County. They kept the business in order and conducted our 2023-2025 Officer Elections. At-Large Members and Delegates to the State & District Conventions were also elected. Did we mention all were unanimously elected, by acclimation?!

The Convention attendance was near record-breaking for our County, and new faces were welcomed! The enthusiasm was contagious and we can't wait to see what's in store for the County GOP under our new leadership.

Thank you to all the voters and elected officials, from municipal to statewide, that came out on a rainy Saturday afternoon to participate and support the Carteret County GOP. And, congratulations to our new officers: Chairman Wanda Fowler; 1st Vice Chairman Dianne Tetreault; 2nd Vice Chairman Dan Smith; Secretary Juli Cosgrove; Assistant Secretary Brooke Barnhill; Treasurer Michele Nix; Assistant Treasurer Jennifer Mann.

    Onward and Upward!

For more information or to make an appointment to donate call 1-800-RED CROSS or sign up online at redcrossblood.org with sponsor code CCRW.

"Hosting a blood drive coincides with CCRW's core values of giving back to the community," said Stephanie Broughton, CCRW President. "With a simple blood donation, we have the ability to help save the life of someone who could be a coworker, loved one, or neighbor."

Blood is routinely transfused to patients with cancer and other diseases, premature babies, organ transplant recipients and trauma victims, according to the Red Cross.

"The short amount of time it takes to donate can mean a lifetime to a patient with a serious medical condition. We urge eligible donors to join us in the selfless act of giving blood."

Donors of all blood types are needed, especially those with O negative, B negative, and A negative. According to the Red Cross, type O negative is the universal blood type that can be safely transfused to anyone, and is often used to treat trauma patients.

  • published NCGOP Gets Huge Win for Transparency in News 2022-10-14 14:23:19 -0400

    October 13, 2022

    For Immediate Release

RALEIGH, NC - Today, voters across the Tarheel State gained a vital win in Wake Superior Court for ensuring the integrity of our upcoming Midterm elections. Earlier this year, the NCGOP, RNC, and the Clay County GOP Chair filed suit against the North Carolina State Board of Elections ("State Board") asking the Court for a declaratory judgment regarding at-large poll observer restrictions and the extended absentee by-mail deadline. Following the initial complaint, the Plaintiffs filed a motion for preliminary injunction.

Placing the rule of law over partisanship, Judge Rozier halted the State Board from continuing to attempt to play the role of the legislature. The hyper-partisan State Board has made a habit of circumventing the General Assembly by twisting, and in some cases, completely changing the meaning of North Carolina election laws. Judge Rozier put a temporary halt to that habit today by granting the motion to preliminarily enjoin the State Board from enforcing their imaginary 4-hour restriction on at-large poll observers. Such a restriction is found nowhere in the poll observer statute, rather, it was created by the State Boards administrative rule.

This is a tremendous win for counties, both small and large. It can be difficult to recruit volunteers to serve as observers, which is why the General Assembly created the role of at-large observers who are able to fill in the gaps by going from voting location to voting location throughout the day.

Judge Rozier also ruled on two other of the Plaintiff's requests: (1) allowing multiple at-large observers in the voting enclosure at one time; and (2) returning the absentee by-mail deadline to November 11, 2022. While Judge Rozier ruled contrary to our arguments, his ruling only applied to the motion for preliminary injunction. A hearing on the merits of the claims will be heard at a later date.

"Transparency is critical when it comes to the election process," said NCGOP Chairman Michael Whatley. "In upholding the rule of law and ensuring opportunities for at-large observers, this ruling is a win for the voters of North Carolina."

The NCGOP will continue fighting for election integrity and transparency measures that make it easy to vote, but hard to cheat.

    For Immediate Release

RALEIGH, NC - Late last week, the North Carolina Republican Party, in conjunction with the Republican National Committee and Clay County GOP Chair Barbara Deas, filed a lawsuit in Wake County against the North Carolina State Board of Elections over the Board's unconstitutional efforts to restrict poll observers and extend the absentee by-mail deadline. See the full complaint here.

Once again, the State Board of Elections has usurped the legislature's authority to make laws that govern our elections, demonstrating the Board's allegiance to their partisan agendas over the Rule of Law.

Election integrity is consistently ranked by North Carolina voters as a top priority, and our electoral system and officials should always aim to provide and promote transparency. The N.C. State Board of Elections, a body whose very existence is predicated on the goals of transparency and integrity, has instead gone rogue in an effort to restrict transparency.

Much like they did in 2020, the State Board has attempted to unilaterally push back the absentee ballot deadline. That deadline is set by law as passed by the duly elected members of our state legislature. The Board has no authority to change it.

Further, poll observers play a critical role in ensuring the integrity of elections, providing much needed oversight from the citizens. This State Board has continued to do everything in its power to restrict the rights of observers and to make it more difficult for the Republican Party to shift observers in every county. The Rules Review Commission shut down such an effort by the Board just a few weeks ago and also shut down so-called "emergency rules" the Board attempted to pass in 2020. However, the State Board remains undeterred and is now explicitly directing county boards to violate the law by restricting at-large poll observers to 4-hour shifts, thereby cutting their flexibility and making it tremendously more difficult for the county parties to have eyes on all voting sites.

"Voters in North Carolina deserve to have confidence in our elections, but when the State Board continues to bend, change, or otherwise flatly ignore the law that undermines the public trust," said NCGOP Chairman Michael Whatley, "frankly, we're not going to stand for it. That's why we have partnered with the RNC to reign in this out of control Board."

This lawsuit is but one of the many actions the N.C. Republican Party has taken at the state and national level to protect election integrity. Republicans will not allow the hijacking of our elections by a group of unelected partisans who have proven more loyal to their political party than to the laws that govern them.

The NCGOP will continue its efforts to ensure transparency, integrity, and accountability within our election systems on behalf of the voters of North Carolina.

    For Immediate Release

RALEIGH, N.C. - The North Carolina Republican Party ("NCGOP") along with the RNC and NRCC filed an amicus brief this week in support of the NC General Assembly in the Moore v. Harper case coming before the Supreme Court of the United States this fall. Read the full brief here.

This case comes before the U.S. Supreme Court on appeal from the Supreme Court of North Carolina, where the majority - composed of four Liberal-Activist Justices - abandoned core constitutional boundaries in order to legislate their preferred political outcome from the bench. The majority substituted their will for that of the General Assembly by ordering the use of a congressional district map drawn by unelected and unaccountable special masters.

"The people of North Carolina elected these Justices to uphold the law, not make the law. I am confident that the United States Supreme Court will follow the Constitution as written and reverse the political decree issued by the Democrats on the Supreme Court of North Carolina," said NCGOP Chairman Michael Whatley.

This case, among many other recent decisions, highlights the need to elect Conservative Judges who will preserve the Constitutional Order and adhere to the Rule of Law. The citizens of North Carolina deserve nothing less. The N.C. Republican Party will continue to work tirelessly to safeguard our courts from partisan judicial activism.

    For Immediate Release

Yesterday, Jerry "Alan" Branson filed an appeal on behalf of Guilford County taxpayers with regards to the illegal use of taxpayer funds to electioneer for the passage of the County's $1.7 billion bond referendum. See the full Appeal here.

The Guilford County Board of Elections' laughable dismissal of the Protest, occurred upon 3-2 party line vote, with all Democrats on the board refusing to investigate the misconduct of government actors, including the Guilford County Government and School System.

The overwhelming amount of evidence presented thus far in this case—before any discovery has even occurred—clearly shows the Guilford County Schools and the Guilford County Government violated the law by using taxpayer funds to promote the passage of the bond.

“Not only is the government attempting to indoctrinate our children, now they’ve attempted to indoctrinate voters using your tax dollars. We cannot let that stand. My goal is to make sure Guilford County’s taxpayers know exactly how their money is spent and to ensure that our elections are free of illegal government interference,” said former Guilford County Commissioner Alan Branson.

Specifically, that evidence will show that government actors sent mass texts, emails, voicemails, and mailers to tens of thousands of voters instructing them to “Vote Yes” on the bond. Moreover, school administrators also deliberately removed high school students from educational settings to propagandize the bond all while incentivizing students to vote in exchange for exemption from teacher-made exams. The School System also paid for a political operative to create a voter analysis, created and posted videos in support of the bond, and promised the creation of nearly 25,000 jobs in Guilford County if the bond passed. The School System also took the liberty of appropriating COVID expenditures to advertise. Finally, it seems the School System, Superintendent Sharon Contreras, and board members may have also crossed lines with third party groups to support the bond, including nonprofits, businesses, and political committees.

“We cannot sit idly by and allow for taxpayer dollars to be misused for political purposes without any repercussions or accountability. We will continue this fight until those responsible are held to account,” stated Philip Thomas, one of Mr. Branson's attorneys.

Branson has now brought on additional legal firepower by adding Steven Walker and Kevin Cline to his legal team. Walker was formerly General Counsel and Chief of Staff to Lieutenant Governor Dan Forest and is now a partner at Walker Kiger, PLLC. Cline runs his own firm Kevin Cline Law, PLLC. In addition to private practice, Philip Thomas also serves as Chief Counsel to the North Carolina Republican Party.

The North Carolina Republican Party supports the continued pursuit of accountability and compliance on behalf of the voters and taxpayers in this State and Guilford County.
