Carteret County GOP Supports NC REACH Act

During the business session of the March 21st meeting of the Carteret County Executive Committee, members passed a motion indicating whole-hearted support for the passage of the NC REACH Act - HB96 and SB114.

Unfortunately, knowledge of American government and our founding documents is at an all time low. Research indicates that not a single college student in the UNC System requires a course in American Government as a condition of graduation. A similar lack of requirements exists at our 58 community colleges.

The REACH Act will balance the curriculum by requiring that all students attending state-funded colleges and universities take a three-credit-hour class on American Government and our Nation's founding documents. We believe graduates from our state-funded colleges and universities deserve a well-rounded education that enables them to become productive citizens. A solid understanding of our Nation's founding documents is integral to that end.

We encourage passage of the NC REACH Act.
