STATE AND NATIONAL

"I think Americans are done. I mean, they are watching the censorship, the cancel culture, they're watching big tech in collusion with the Biden administration suppressing free speech. But beyond that - gas prices are up, we're seeing inflation, we are seeing our groceries costing more, we are seeing the disaster of our border not being secure, abandoning Israel, and vacating our energy independence. These are so many things that are coming out of this administration and such a short time to dismantle what the Trump administration did so well that lifted every American. So, we're looking forward to a great midterm to discuss those ideas. And let's not forget defunding the police. I mean, Democrats are all for making our cities and our communities less safe and secure."

Biden's nominee to lead the ATF, David Chipman, is a gun control extremist who attacks law-abiding gun owners and the Second Amendment instead of criminals.
Chipman is a far-left ideologue who wants to trample the Second Amendment rights of every American. He is advocating for:
- "Federal Authorities" to take charge of a national comprehensive gun control approach that would supersede state gun laws.
- Banning all private gun sales.
- Regulation of commonly owned semi-automatic rifles "just like machine guns".
- Banning "assault weapons", but can't define what an "assault weapon" is.

Chipman holds law-abiding gun owners in contempt. He has:
- Suggested first-time gun owners were doomsday preppers and compared them to the Tiger King.
- Recommended gun owners should "secure that gun locked and unloaded and hide it behind the cans of tuna and beef jerky that you've stored in a cabinet and only bring it out if the zombies start to appear."
- Explained: "I think there's also an element for people who chose not to serve [in the military] that this somehow allows them to connect with that service without them having to do it - like you can kind of act patriotic without having to do it."
Chipman has suggested that some people should be arrested even before they commit a crime, but is open to reinstating felons' ability to own a gun after they are released from prison.
Chipman's service record also raises serious questions on his competence:
- Senators on the Judiciary Committee have received information suggesting that Chipman misplaced or lost his service weapon when he was at the ATF.
- Chipman allegedly made a radically charged comment in 2007, saying to multiple coworkers "wow, there were an unusually large number number of African American agents that passed the exam this time. They must have been cheating".

DISTRICT

The 5th Annual 3rd District Kidwell Picnic will be on Saturday, August 7th from 11am to 2pm at Rep. & Mrs. Keith Kidwell's home in Chocowinity. Attendees are asked to bring a chair and a dish to share. The grilled burgers and brats will be provided. RSVP by July 30th (contact Stephanie Broughton for RSVP information).

There is a Legislative Day scheduled for August 4th. Please let Mary Boughton or Stephanie Broughton know if you plan to attend.
