News and Events

STATE AND NATIONAL

  • The events in Kabul are sickening and heartbreaking - the American people are continuing to pray for the victims and their families.
  • Sadly, there are now deadly consequences for the way the Biden administration bungled the Afghanistan withdrawal.
  • The Biden administration needs to stop claiming the Americans they are leaving behind in Afghanistan want to stay.
  • Many Americans cannot get to the airport and Joe Biden has no plan to help them.
  • The Biden administration has admitted people have been turned away at Taliban checkpoints.
  • The chaos in Afghanistan makes clear what we already knew: Joe Biden is incapable of serving as Commander in Chief - the U.S. and the world are less safe because of him.
  • ICYMI: Read these Op Eds on the crisis in Afghanistan written by North Carolina Republican elected officials:
  • Our prayers are with the U.S. Marines, Navy, Army, and innocent civilians who were killed and wounded in the horrific terrorist attacks near the Kabul airport.

  • Lt. Governor Robinson's Fairness and Accountability in the Classroom for Teachers and Students (FACTS) task force investigating Critical Race Theory in the NC education system gave its first update.
  • The purpose of this task force is to answer the question of whether indoctrination is happening in NC public schools. Lt. Gov. Robinson said that after doing this report and task force, that "the overwhelming answer is yes, it is."
  • The advisory board for FACTS consists of 12 people, made up of teachers, local and state board members, lawmakers, university professors, and other community members.
  • Following Lt. Governor's remarks, Superintendent of Public Instruction, Catherine Truitt, gave brief remarks.
    • In summation, Superintendent Truitt said that although the vase majority of public school teachers keep their lessons professional and unbiased, the FACTS task force has provided evidence that some teachers do, in fact, improperly use their platform to influence their students' political beliefs.
  • The largest percentage of submissions for a single school district came from Wake County Public Schools, with 20.9%. Orange County Public Schools followed with 12.8%, then Forsyth at 7% and Guilford at 5.5%.
  • Following the press conference, the Senate Education/Higher Education Standing Committee approved House Bill 324, Ensuring Dignity & Nondiscrimination/Schools.
    • Chairman Blackwell (R-Burke) said this legislation would "ensure that tax dollars are spent to educate our students and not on distracting political projects."
  • Republican leaders in North Carolina are united in their opposition to Critical Race Theory. Participation of parents, students, and educators across the state have created a strong collection of concrete evidence that helps NC take a tremendous stride in creating more fair and accountable classrooms.
